Investigation & Complaint Services

Independently reviews and investigates public concerns about services provided by provincial and municipal government organizations. This oversight function represents the direct continuation of the original Ombudsman service.

Issues brought forward may be complex and sensitive, requiring formal investigation and generally focus on individual complaint resolution, and improvements to policies and procedures. Own motion and policy reviews address issues that are systemic in nature, and may be initiated when we notice a pattern of complaints developing in a specific area.

Some concerns that we can investigate in relation to provincial and municipal government services include:

  • the manner in which programs and services are delivered
  • fairness and accountability issues
  • licenses and permits
  • treatment of adult offenders

Investigation and Complaint Services also assists government bodies by reviewing policies and proposed revisions to legislation and regulations.
