Seniors Service

Senior Services provides independent oversight to seniors in residential care facilities, nursing homes and homes for the aged. While the primary responsibility for seniors in care facilities rests with the Department of Health, the Office of the Ombudsman provides a proactive role through regular visits to senior facilities.

Ombudsman representatives, dedicated to seniors issues, visit the facilities, explain the role and function of the office, and discuss any concerns the seniors may have. This proactive approach provides an avenue for seniors' voices to be heard and their issues addressed. Ombudsman representatives will also assist seniors and their families in navigating through government processes, advising them of avenues of appeal and participate on committees relating to seniors issues.

All complaints will be investigated in a confidential and timely manner with particular emphasis on administrative fairness, good governance, and natural justice. Through monitoring and evaluation, the Office of the Ombudsman will identify any specific and systemic issues and make appropriate recommendations to government.

As necessary, Ombudsman representatives will assist seniors and their families in navigating through government processes, advising them of avenues of appeal and participate on committees relating to seniors issues.
