Ceramics Paired with Coatings

Like metals, ceramics are a key material for numerous high tech industrial sectors. Ceramics-related innovations are one of the major components to competitiveness in Canadian industry. In fact, the perfecting of new or improved ceramic products plays a major role on many of the country's crucial economic sectors. In this field, IMI has an extensive range of expertise working on various R&D projects that lead to important results for many industrial sectors.

Activities conducted by our specialists generally involve the composition and properties of ceramics, as well as the various processes used in their forming. More specifically, work is concentrated on ceramic coatings obtained by thermal spraying for use in many applications in the fields of natural resources and manufacturing: aircraft engine pressure gaskets, coatings designed for effective protection against wear or corrosion, or used as thermal barriers, etc.

Many Canadian companies are working together with our specialists on important work related to ceramic coatings, through our Surface Engineering Technology Group - SURFTEC
