The Commission oversees the planning of programs within the
Sherbrooke Planning Area which will best employ the resources
and people of the Village of Sherbrooke and the surrounding
district. The Commission is responsible to the Nova Scotia Museum
Board of Governors for the proper use and administration of
funds granted to the Commission by the Board. Its responsibilities
include: advising the Minister through the Nova Scotia Museum
Board on the restoration and development of Sherbrooke. The
Commission is responsible for the use and administration of
funds, preparation of budgets, planning of programs and operation
of the Village.

The board advises the Provincial Archivist on the general direction
of the Public Archives and performs an oversight role; reviews
major initiatives and significant changes in terms of program
plans, policies and priorities, and makes recommendations to
the Minister and public bodies as appropriate; supports the
development and improvement of the Public Archives; and establishes
policies and procedures for the management of all amounts received
by the Public Archives other than its provincially funded operating
budget.

The Council is established under the Heritage Property Act to
advise the Minister on: inclusion of buildings in the Provincial
Registry of Heritage Properties; applications for permission
to substantially alter or demolish a provincial heritage property;
and any other matters conducive to carrying out the intent and
purpose of the Act. The Council holds three to four meetings
each year.

The Nova Scotia Museum Board of Governors advises on operation
of the Nova Scotia Museum which is a provincially decentralized
system of 10 directly-managed museums, 17 locally-managed museums
and five special places (archaeological and palaeontological
sites) designated under the Special Places Protection Act.

The Commission's mandate is to preserve the unique scenic beauty,
character and integrity of the area for the enjoyment of both
residents and visitors. The Commission meets regularly to review
and recommend the issuance of development permits pursuant to
the Peggy'; Cove Land Use By-Law, as well as review and make
recommendations on other matters pertaining to the Peggy's Cove
area.
