Post-secondary education

Over three years there will be a 28.6 per cent increase in operating funding for post-secondary education, or $474 million. The increase is 16 per cent in 2006-07.

Almost 12,000 student spaces will have been added in post-secondary programs by 2008-09 and tuition fees in 2006-07 will be maintained at 2004-05 levels.

Increased funding is being provided for:

• immigration services
• English as a second language training
foreign credential recognition
• skills upgrading and apprenticeship training.

K-12 Education

Basic (K-12) education operating spending will increase by 5.1 per cent, to almost $4.8 billion in 2006-07. Funding for provincial initiatives such as the Class Size Initiative will continue.
