Capital Plan — Schools and post-secondary facilities

More than $339 million will be invested in school facilities for the 2006-07 school year with:

  • 21 school capital projects completed and 109 modular classrooms constructed and completed, providing more than 10,000 new student spaces.
  • work beginning or continuing on 51 previously announced school projects.

Over a three-year period, $833 million will be invested in school infrastructure.

Post-secondary facilities will also see a significant infusion of funds. Over the next three years, more than $1.1 billion will be invested into post-secondary capital projects. These funds will be used to:

  • expand facilities,
  • increase student access, and
  • preserve existing facilities.

Major projects include:

  • a new Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science at the University of Alberta,
  • the Campus Calgary Digital Library at the University of Calgary, and
  • the second phase of redevelopment at Bow Valley College in Calgary.
