Pandemic Planning

Canada has an influenza pandemic preparedness plan to help reduce the impacts on health, essential services and daily life. Provinces and territories are developing their own local preparedness plans, as are B.C.'s regional health authorities.

British Columbia is working with provincial, national and international partners to plan and prepare for an influenza pandemic. B.C. is also working with the Public Health Agency of Canada and other partners to put Canada in the best position to develop an influenza pandemic vaccine.

While British Columbia continues to improve and implement its preparedness plan, individuals can help prevent or reduce the spread of a pandemic. Measures include frequent hand washing, staying home if ill and practicing self-care measures, limiting travel, and attending large groups or public places only when necessary.
