The Review Board's Role

The Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board is an independent administrative tribunal that reports to the Minister of Canadian Heritage. As outlined in the Cultural Property Export and Import Act the Review Board is responsible for:

Schedule of Meetings

Certification Meetings: the Review Board meets four times a year to certify cultural property for income tax purposes.  If you wish to apply for certification, please consult the application deadlines.

Export Permit Review Meetings: the Review Board meets four times a year to review appeals of refused export permits.

Review Board Members

The ten-member board is appointed by the Governor-in-Council and is comprised of:

  • two members of the general population;
  • four representatives of art galleries, museums, libraries and similar institutions; and
  • four dealers and collectors of art, antiques or other objects of cultural value.
