Marion Murphy's Bread

Ingredients (all quantities more or less)

  • 2 litres warm water
  • 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3 tbsp yeast
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • flour

Method

Pour water into a large mixing bowl. Add sugar and yeast and let stand for 10 to 15 minutes.

Stir and add salt and oil. Stir well.

Add flour, mixing with a wooden spoon, until it makes a dough like biscuit dough.

Then knead in the bowl until it's not sticky.

Cover and set in a warm place for 20 minutes. Knead again.

Let rise 1 1/2 to 2 hours until dough is double in size or better. (A good test is to poke the dough with your finger. If dough doesn't bounce back it's ready.)

Put in bread pans. Let rise again.

Bake at 400 F. for 30 to 45 minutes. Makes 3 to 4 loaves.

For rolls: Add 2 or 3 eggs to oil and yeast mixture.

Enjoy!
