Small
mobile fuel cell engines can produce 1 to 10 kW of power with low to
zero emissions. In dense populations such as China and India, this technology
could make a huge difference to air quality - and quality of life.
The possible applications of small mobile power units are as numerous as they are diverse. Those currently in development include bicycles, scooters, wheelchairs, golf carts, small materials forklifts, industrial vehicles, and auxiliary power units. Fuel cells for these vehicles will be fuelled from hydrogen stored in metal or chemical hydrides or pressurized containers.
