Nova Scotia Actor gets Oscar Nod

Stacey Jones-Oxner

Ellen PageNova Scotia born actor, Ellen Page, has been nominated as Best Actress in a leading role by the Academy of Motion Pictures. Page, who lives in Halifax, stared in the comedy film Juno. Her competitors for the coveted Oscar are Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Laura Linney and Golden Globe winner, Marion Cotillard. Page’s appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman earlier this month, had this province buzzing. During her appearance with Letterman, Page spoke glowingly about her home.

Page invited Letterman to come for a visit and Nova Scotia Come to life extended an invitation to the talk show host too. A package has been sent to Dave which included some interesting information about our province and a Top Ten list from Nova Scotia Premier Rodney MacDonald, which you can view right here by clicking on his picture.

Page, who is just 20 years old, is very much in demand. She’s been called the "Next Big Thing", the new "it" girl and the next "Jody Foster". Through it all, Page has remained grounded. She has helped to put Nova Scotia on the map. The Oscars will be handed out February 24th and all of Nova Scotia will be watching and cheering for Ellen Page. Good Luck Ellen!

Until next time,
Stacey

Nova Scotia Holiday Greetings

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

The Holiday Season means different things to different people.  For me, it is a perfect time to spend quality time with family and friends.  I'm very fortunate to have my family fairly close by.  But many of us aren't as fortunate.   Many Nova Scotians have moved away from home for various reasons.  These expatriates have been on my mind a lot lately, with the recent Nova Scotia Come to life ad campaign, aimed at expatriates living in Toronto and Calgary.  We called the campaign the "Road to Life".  We wanted to get expatriates to think about home and everything it has to offer: family, friends, the ocean and DONAIRS.  The donairs struck a cord with many of you.  One woman from Yellowknife read about the ads and penned a letter to the Chronicle Herald saying, "It is only too bad there are not more road signs across Canada leading everyone to the beautiful province of Nova Scotia, which is also home to the best donairs in Canada."
