Members' Corner

His Excellency delivered the opening address at the Canada 150/2017 Starts Now Conference held on June 27, 2013, in Ottawa.

Canada 2017 Consultations

As 2017 approaches, various organizations are considering what gift they might make to Canada to celebrate our country’s sesquicentennial. Frank O’Dea, O.C., has put forward a vision entitled “The Idea of Canada”, whereby members of the Order would work with youth to project their aspirations for what Canada can become in 2067, at the time of the bi-centennial.

The Advisory Council of the Order of Canada was consulted on this proposal in early July, and agreed to mobilize the members of the Order and to undertake broad consultations.

Submissions

We are looking for your suggestions on what “big idea” the Order could focus on to celebrate 2017, which is also the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Order of Canada.

Please submit your suggestions and innovative ideas online in the Member’s corner section of our website (www.gg.ca/Canada2017Consultations) no later than October 18, 2013. Ideas will be reviewed by the Advisory Council at its November meeting.
