Abstract:

Objectives:
To initiate field and laboratory studies to quantify the fate, persistence and effects of imidacloprid and triadimefon in the soil environment following applications of slow release in white pine plantations of the northern Great -Lakes St. Lawrence forest region; to monitor the health of white pine transplants under various slow-release treatment regimes in partial cuts in a mixed-wood forest of the Great-Lakes St Lawrence forest region using pulse-amplitude modulated chlorophyll fluorescence; to obtain baseline data on chlorophyll fluorescence patterns of rare and endangered species in the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence forest region; to complete laboratory studies quantifying the phytotoxicity of forest-use herbicides to M. sibiricum, a representative aquatic macrophyte; to complete a literature review and prepare a journal publication comparing toxicity of forest-use herbicides to aquatic organisms.

Location:
Temagami and Sundridge

Key Deliverables:
Journal Articles- Effects of forestry management herbicides on non-target aquatic organisms; accumulation dynamics of triclopyrester in leaf packs and effects on detritivorous insects; conference proceedings -third international conference on forest vegetation management.

Expected Benefits:

Sources of Funding:
Enhanced Timber Production and Protection Network

Other Collaborators:
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Ontario Forest Research Institute

Nature of Other Collaborators' Involvement:
Financial support for slow-release tablet soil fate and impact studies-professional time in support of chlorophyll fluorescence studies, and for year two of systemic foliar fate study sampling of white pine in Temagami and Sundridge
