Abstract:

Objectives:
Participate in the forestry working group as the CFS representative for the Grand River Watershed to look at methods to address issues such as forest fragmentation, loss of biodiversity in the southern mixedwood and Carolinian Forest; to provide a scientific foundation which will allow for assessment of the status of butternut and the reassessment of the status of American chestnut in Canada forests. This will be accomplished by documenting butternut and American chestnut populations. Site information such as reproductive status, prevalence of disease, etc. will be collected and developed into a data base that will allow for subsequent monitoring of the status of these species.
